What People Say About Us
Our clients range from the busy professional challenged by the prospect of how to fit, fitness in to their over-scheduled life to a 72-year old training for Tahoe Ironman and an elite steeple chaser, chasing the Olympic dream.
Julie and Andy at Silver Sage Sports Performance have helped the Sugar Bowl Academy Nordic Ski Team reach some outstanding results through their lactate testing procedures. Every year we have Silver Sage test all of our athletes on rollerskis in the fall and we are able to pinpoint each athlete’s optimum training zones from this test. Andy and Julie make an individualized chart for each athlete showing the training zones by heart rate and we then use these zones throughout the season to make sure each athlete is accomplishing what each workout is intended to do.
This scientific approach to training has allowed our skiers to reach National and International success including having 4 podium finishes at the Junior National Championships in the past two seasons and having 15 year old Hannah Halvorsen make the 2014 US Ski team under 18 World Championship team where she had the top us Women’s result of 13th this year in Finland.
We love working with Silver Sage and feel they have been a great part of our success.
Aside from the fact that Julie has this awesome athletic resume, she has impressed me and so many others with her knowledge and sincere caring for our health, efficiency, and excitement.
Julie has a wealth of fitness knowledge and applies it along with sports biomechanics to help our bodies work like a well-oiled machine. She stresses quality vs quantity, which has really helped me to slow down and connect to every single rep. This way of thinking forces one to get “in tune” with what the exercise is designed to do while at the same time it teaches you to connect your mind to the intention. This reaps huge rewards! Thank you, Julie!
I had a bike BG Specialized- Dartfish analyzed bike fit at Silver Sage Sports Performance Center with Julie Young. I’m SO STOKED!! I’m feeling like I can actually start making an upward progression now that the pain isn’t limiting me. I’ve been hesitant to get out and train more duration because I was afraid of being in agony. It’s so amazing to have that in the past. I’ll be telling EVERYONE about your awesome bike fit service!
My son Matt, a competitive lacrosse player, underwent surgery on his tibia that required he be non weight bearing for eight weeks and no sports for six months. Julie started Matt on a strength program that was appropriate for his condition. He quickly accelerated and was super motivated by his progress. He was really surprised when a physical therapist tested his strength and was blown away by Matt’s level of condition four months post op. At his six month check, Matt has been released to return to lacrosse and the doctor is amazed by his strength and level of condition. We owe this to the o2fitness return to sport program.
Girls on the Run- Sierras is grateful for Silver Sage Sports Performance for being a team sponsor at Dorothy Lemelson STEM Academy. Your support provided coaches training, the 20 lesson life skills curriculum, 5K race registration fees, and all program materials (including nutritious snacks, program t-shirts, water bottles, and 5K finisher medals) for a team of low income girls at a Title 1 school. Without Silver Sage Sports Performance, 15 underserved girls would not have had the opportunity to participate in the transformational positive youth development program.and reach their goal of crossing the finish line.
One of my students was very shy and talked very quietly. The way she has blossomed in Girls on the Run is amazing. She now speaks with confidence and even will get in front of the class to present. I asked this girl how she thinks Girls on the Run affected her and she said “It made me nicer and more confident.
“We are a low income family that applied for a program scholarship and are very thankful to have received one … Our daughter absolutely loved the program.”
“The exercise and positive messages, plus being surrounded by other girls going through the same stage in life, gave my daughter a solid base to move forward in life.”
“GREAT program, my daughter loves it and I think it establishes a real sense of accomplishment and self satisfaction for her, plus learning how to deal with issues.”
“Every week she came home talking about girls on the run and how positive the program was!!!! My daughter now takes the examples given to her every week by girls on the run and uses them in her day. She now wants to go running with me and run on the days I go. I am signing my daughters up every year now!!! Absolutely love the program!!!”
Wes Washoe, a Navy Veteran, has cycling in his blood. From working in the industry, weaving through the streets as a bicycle messenger, to working himself up to a Cat 2 racer. However, during and following his military service Wes sustained some injuries that made cycling difficult, and physically and mentally painful. That was his reality until he found Ride2Recovery (R2R), a cycling program for disabled veterans. Since joining Project HERO City of Reno, Wes has found his love for cycling again, participating in R2R Honor rides, local club rides, and competing and receiving a medal during the cycling competition at the Valor Games Far West event in Alameda, CA this past June. Although Wes was back on his bike, he was still struggling with physical pain during his riding which prompted a visit to Julie Young at Silver Sage Sports and Fitness Lab, to review his fit. Right away Wes felt the pain in his knee reduced by the changes Julie made during this comprehensive fit. Wes’ next cycling goal is to race in a criterium again. Another cyclist saw Wes’ desire to race again and has offered to ride tandem with Wes during the last Reno Wheelman Tuesday night twilight series…happy training Wes Washoe!
