80% of urine infections are caused by one thing [AOerKSTgV9o]
Urine infections are incredibly common.
So common that more than one of my patients asked me to do a video on this topic!
Anyone can get urine infections but they're most common in women with most women experiencing one in their lifetime.
The symptoms of a urinary infection (or UTI) are usually pretty obvious - peeing more than usual and with "urgency", burning and stinging when you pee and sometimes tummy pain or blood in the urine.
There are a few things that increase the risk of UTIs, like pregnancy, menopause and diabetes but either way, they're usually straightforward to spot and can be managed remotely most of the time.
Some UTIs improve with time and no treatment other than water and rest but most need antibiotics as bacteria is the usual culprit. Other over the counter treatments and home remedies are not evidence based (ie there is not enough evidence to definitely recommend them) but most are safe to try if you want to give it a go.
UTIs improve quickly but if you notice that it doesnt, or you have new symptoms or feel unwell with the urinary symptoms, you need to see your doctor.
