{"id":3696,"date":"2015-07-14T14:43:34","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T21:43:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silversagecenter.com\/staging\/?p=3696"},"modified":"2015-07-14T14:44:57","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T21:44:57","slug":"racing-outside-the-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/silversagecenter.com\/staging\/racing-outside-the-box\/","title":{"rendered":"Racing Outside the Box"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Contributed by Silver Sage sponsored Reno WheelWoman Athlete, Heidi Littenberg<\/p>\n<p>This season, I chose to spend some time working on my time trial racing with the goal of participating in this year\u2019s NCNCA District Championships and, hopefully, the USAC Masters National Championships.\u00a0 I\u2019m primarily a short-distance criterium racer who does best when I can draft off of other people.\u00a0 Then, when the time is right, I try to sprint to the finish line.\u00a0 It\u2019s crafty, but it\u2019s a tactic that has worked well over the years.<\/p>\n<p>But, like everyone, the time comes to try something different.\u00a0 Time trial racing, solo against the clock, seemed like a good addition to my repertoire with the goal of adding some straight-up speed.\u00a0 After careful discussion with Coach Julie Young last year, we decided it was the best way to shake things up a bit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/o2fitness.net\/o2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/20150711-095037-CAH_489313_ncnca-tt_full-ZF-10045-07680-1-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2646 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/o2fitness.net\/o2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/20150711-095037-CAH_489313_ncnca-tt_full-ZF-10045-07680-1-002-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"20150711-095037-CAH_489313_ncnca-tt_full-(ZF-10045-07680-1-002)\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Photo Courtesy of Craig Huffman Photography (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.craighuffman.com\">www.craighuffman.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>The NCNCA District Time Trial race is 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) and it\u2019s all flat.\u00a0 There\u2019s no place to hide on this thing.\u00a0 That meant an increased emphasis on fitness, as well as dialing in the bike fit to maximize my ability to generate power.
