{"id":3437,"date":"2015-02-03T15:19:41","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T23:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silversagecenter.com\/staging\/?p=3437"},"modified":"2015-02-03T15:19:41","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T23:19:41","slug":"choosing-path-fitness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/silversagecenter.com\/staging\/choosing-path-fitness\/","title":{"rendered":"Choosing the Path to Fitness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Silver Sage athlete and Reno WheelWoman stalwart, Heidi, on sticking with it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, my job took over my life.\u00a0 I spent several months looking out my office window while sitting in front of a computer monitor full of stuff that needed to be done.\u00a0 Deadlines were looming and there wasn\u2019t enough time in the day to do much besides taking my dogs for their daily walk.\u00a0 It took a toll and I ended up gaining weight, losing fitness, suffering from back pain on a regular basis due to sitting too much, and generally being stressed out and , frankly, cranky.<\/p>\n<p>With autumn and the completion of those projects, it was time to get back in shape. \u00a0It\u2019s been a long journey back that is still in progress.\u00a0 As I\u2019ve written here before, though, Coach Julie Young has been instrumental in helping me get on the path back to fitness and I fully intend to stay there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/o2fitness.net\/o2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/10929000_10205721310051440_8412339211819434977_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2447 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/o2fitness.net\/o2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/10929000_10205721310051440_8412339211819434977_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"10929000_10205721310051440_8412339211819434977_n\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, 2015 started with a fresh set of deadlines that were totally unexpected.\u00a0 My blissful time as \u201can athlete pretending to do work\u201d had come to an end.\u00a0 As the projects began to pile up again, I chose to learn from how the summer unfolded because I don\u2019t ever want to feel that bad again.<\/p>\n<p>I consulted with Julie to let her know that my time was becoming severely limited, but I was bound and determined to do what I could to stick to my plan.\u00a0 Her comforting response was to focus on the quality of the workouts and do what\u2019s possible \u2013 key points for any working stiff who\u2019s hoping to balance all the demands of daily life with an athletic pursuit.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, my trainer now has a permanent place in my home office, so when a ride is called for and I can only squeeze in so much time, it\u2019s there to remind me that it is possible.\u00a0 It may not be optimal to do your SFRs or sprints on the trainer, but it\u2019s better than the alternative \u2013 something is better than nothing.\u00a0 The structure of the workout plan also helps, in that I can take a half an hour here and 45 minutes there to stay as fit as possible.\u00a0 I may be a sweaty mess in front of my monitor, but I feel so much better knowing that I\u2019m paying attention to what my body needs.<\/p>\n<p>Race season starts in less than two weeks and, thankfully, I feel as prepared as I can be because I had the guidance from Julie to stick it out when time got crammed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Silver Sage athlete and Reno WheelWoman stalwart, Heidi, on sticking with it&#8230;
